Dannychoo.com Theme by TheAkiba.com

Remember when I mentioned few days ago on Christmas Eve that I had been looking for Danny Choo‘s email address to inform him about the theme stuffs? Guess what, I received Danny’s email one day after Christmas, surprisingly, since I hadn’t sent the email yet.

Danny and I were talking about the theme stuffs and we’re now ready to release the theme. I changed the style of theme according to Danny’s requests and made it looks much more identical to Dannychoo.com. Check out Danny’s post here. Also you can check out the original one.

One thing more you should know about, the theme is for WordPress only.

  • Demo: It’s just what you’re looking at.

Maybe this was the effect you were looking for, but your website is almost identical to dc.com, which I don’t think is a good idea at all. It sorts of erodes your own unique ‘identity’ and just blend it in with his. Now, I find it hard to think of your site as an individual and newcomers will no doubt think its some dc.com ripoff etc. Then again, its your site, your call.

    Just some feedback….

Thanks for your feedback and this is a question I was thinking about these days. You’re right about the identity thing but this is a theme created base on Danny’s, probably as a fans stuff. I will make some mods to the original one and make it more favorable. I really want to make my identity outstanding but this is problem I need to figure out. Sure to bring a new theme, or new identity later and thanks for your poking around ^o^

just another thing which I noticed. maybe you will like to decrease the size/placement of the featured articles? I took quite a long time before I noticed the latest articles section… not sure if this is a good idea as people will just see and think you havent updated your site whereas you had but its not very visible

    • YoU says:

Well I haven’t noticed that but I should take it as an advice. The frontpage used to display two featured articles and a site logo but now it display three and get rid of the logo. I should keep on trying something new, and it would be the comment area in the first place ^^

your site is probably alright, far above the average one in fact. its just that I surf around quite often and seen some really nice sites and those that are just epic-fails if you know what i mean and hence the level i benchmark sites to is sometimes not very accurate for the common user. keep up the good work!

ok i tried the template and im getting some errors in the template this is what they says:

Warning: call_user_func(theme_comments) [function.call-user-func]: First argument is expected to be a valid callback in \wp-includes\comment-template.php on line 1205

Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at C:\xampp\htdocs\wp-content\themes\DCbyTA\functions.php:27) in C:\xampp\htdocs\wp-includes\pluggable.php on line 850

this is with the current download with just placing in the theme and plugins.

I think you might use the old version and it doesn’t support some code I use in the comment part of the template (the theme is based on 2.7). But you can do some mods as below:

Rename legacy.comments.php to comments.php (remove the old comments.php)
      Remove functions.php

BTW. I’d like to know what version you’re using

  5. denki says:

    all the info:
i installed a new copy of
    wordpress 2.7
    then placed the
Dannychoo.com Theme by TheAkiba.com beta 1.0 the theme and the plugin’s after that
it gave me some errors so now i renamed functions.php and now after i tryed to make a comment it doesn’t work and give me a new error but replacing the old comments with the new legacy.comments fixed that error but now widgets stopped working and how would i replace the Categories at the top to the bottom and place the menu bar at the top, and i can make it a drop down ^^ and then moving the search button over to the left more too ^^.

    • YoU says:

Well, sorry about the mistake. You might not remove the whole functions.php, but delete some codes in it. You may find ” < ?php " in line 36, just delete the code before it and leave those after.

You may find " < ? php wp_list_categories('hide_empty=0&title_li='); ? > ” in line 25 of header.php, it’s used to display your categories. You can move the code to the footer.php and put where you want.

As for the drop down menu thing, you can check out Small Potato’s tutorial at http://www.wpdesigner.com/2007/09/07/do-it-yourself-wordpress-hover-menu/ . It’s really cool~

thank you ^^ for the help ^^ everything is working now except i could not get that tutorial to work so i did a little searching i i got one to work good ^^ it was originally with word press in the first place so i only had to use one set of codes and i was done ^^ the only think im wondering about is with the avatars i can find out how to add my own or make a new account and then add a new avatar on it other than that i figured out everything else ^^

  7. denki says:

thank you i got it working and thank you so much for the help ^^ but i have 1 last thing i just noticed after i did what you told me to do after editing functions.php and renaming legacy.commands.php for some reason i have tried everything but i cant get anything to show up in the Featured Articles section do you know what mite have happened ?

  8. denki says:

ok i never tried this yet and i just found it out, i am not sure what did it but if you are not logged in and you go to a page or a post in the layout it is messed up take a look for yourself:
http://denkikoiji.com/?p=125 i am not sure why it is doing this but there doesn’t seem to be a problem if you are logged in though T_T, and i was wondering how would i add another section to the index on the far left side, i would like to add a post there too so there could be a quick chat like section there i tried looking but haven’t found anything to help T_T

    • YoU says:

It seems to be some problem with your footer.php or single.php files, not sure. You don’t mind sending me a copy of you theme file so I can check it on my server, do you?

    ok i sent you email

  10. Panther says:

As deadbeat mentioned above, this theme is too identical to DC’s. I think it would be better if you could do it from the ground up on your own and look at other ways of making your theme look different and still work roughly the same for you. Cheers.

    • YoU says:

Thank you for your advice. I’m busy setting up a new website focuses on CSS design and WordPress, probably will help me a lot in moving further. Will clean all the “Dannychoo Elements” from sight in the future ^^
