How Big can a Video File be?

I don’t know how they made it but it’s just HOLY COOL! Think about one thing first: A 3D animation displaying non-stop animation and playing  music in more than half an hour. How big will that video file be?

You may say it’s about 100MB~2GB, depending on the quality. Yes, it’s probably true. Well, a Warez organization makes it only 64KB. But it’s no movie file, it’s a DEMO. You might say this is no big deal since it’s a DEMO. But the idea and technology inside is really something we need to dig further^^

The video is from a game called Prophecy, not sure about the source. Check out the link below to try it out. DirectX 8.0 required.

What’s DEMO (computer programming)?

A demo is a non-interactive multimedia presentation made within the computer subculture known as the demoscene. Demogroups create demos to demonstrate their abilities in programming, music, drawing, and 3D modeling. The key difference between a classical animation and a demo is that the display of a demo is computed in real time, making computing power considerations the biggest challenge. Demos are mostly composed of 3D animations mixed with 2D effects and full screen effects.

What’s Warez?

“Warez” refers primarily to copyrighted works traded in violation of copyright law. The term generally refers to illegal releases by organized groups, as opposed to peer-to-peer file sharing between friends or large groups of people with similar interest using a darknet. It usually does not refer to commercial for-profit software counterfeiting. This term was initially coined by members of the various computer underground circles, but has since become commonplace among Internet users and the mass media.

This one is quite old. Farbrausch does some quite amazing demofiles, though. Especially in the 64KB and the 128KB category.
