Amagami SS – Haruka Morishima Arc [Episodes 1-4]0

The basic premise of the show is that 2 years ago on Christmas Eve Junichi was stood up and is heartbroken. It’s his second year of high school and things are set to change this Christmas. Essentially the shows entire story is told in one arc (4 episodes). Each arc features one girl who becomes the love interest of Junichi. I am going to cram the first arc into one review, and the second arc into another and from then one I will review the show episode by episode (within the arc).

The Opening Song isn’t the best or most creative thing I’ve ever heard but it’s nice and upbeat. The Ending song varies depending on which arc it is. For the Haruka Morishima it’s a rock piece. Some parts I liked while others not so much so I’m giving this one an average.

The very first episode (of the series) pretty much lays the foundations for many of the characters who we will see in each arc. The plot only has 4 episodes to develop so in terms of story line you aren’t going to get anything too deep or interesting. What makes this show watchable is the dynamics between the characters and this isn’t just between Junichi and the Heroine of the arc.

Some moments in the show are a tiny bit awkward to watch, it’s a shame that some of these moments are actually used to drive the show along but I guess it’s a good thing in the end. The example in this arc is when Junichi is licking the back of Haruka’s knee. Yes it is a bit wierd to comprehend at times but for the most part these interactions are enjoyable to watch.

I quite like the animation style used for the series. It’s nice and pretty consistant. The music used during the episodes suit the scene but aren’t too memorable. So what do I think of Haruka Morishima? I’d say Average. Simply because i’ve seen the potential of character development from the second arc and this isn’t really apparent in the first arc. In saying that I think Haruka and her progression with Junichi is quite enjoyable and some parts are actually pretty good.
