April 2009 New Anime Guide

April is coming and all I see is nothing but the flood of Anime rushing towards my screen. Spring/April Anime always contains lots of outstanding ones, say Code Geass. What’s coming this Spring? Here we go! (Please note that some of the summary of the Anime via Anime News Network).

Queen’s Blade -Rurou no Senshi- / クイーンズブレイド 流浪の戦士 (TV)

In 4 years time the competition that will decide who the next Queen shall be will start. The strongest warrior will continue to rule the country according to tradition and expand it. The contestants need only be older than 12 years. They need not be human, intelligent or even of that country. The rules for the tournament are simple: murder is allowed. Any weapon can be chosen. The winner is decided when one of the participants flees or can’t move anymore. Such event is broadcasted trough a crystal sphere by the court’s magic teacher to all population to see and enjoy.

Witnesses are usually killed, but the man is captured and taken to be brainwashed into “Zwei”, Inferno’s newest assassin, with no memory of who he is. From this point on, Zwei is drawn into a world of conspiracy, deceit and violence.

Abandoned by his parents and given a monumentally large debt as a Christmas present, 16-year old Ayasaki Hayate is at the lowest point of his life. Desperately trying alter his hapless fate, he decides to kidnap someone to hold for a ransom. Due to an ill choice of words, the girl he tries to kidnap misunderstands the action as a confession of love. His plan is totally crushed when he gives his real name out. Realizing his wrongdoing, Hayate proceeds to rescue the girl from the yakuza, who had instead kidnapped her. The girl, as a token of thanks, offers Hayate a job as her butler. Hayate, overwhelmed by her kindness, vows to protect her even at the cost of his life.

Shinkyoku Soukai Polyphonica crimson S / 神曲奏界ポリフォニカ クリムゾンS (TV)

The original Polyphonica fantasy visual novel software and text novels are set on an alternate world where “Spirits” can exist alongside humans. There are “Dantists” who can play music and communicate with the Spirits, and Tatara Phoron is one such Dantist who is in contact with a spirit named Corticarte Apa Lagranges. The Shinkyoku Sōkai Polyphonica crimson S anime ties into Ichiro Sakaki and Noboru Kannatsuki’s spinoff light novels of the same name.


Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (remake) / 鋼の錬金術師 (TV)

Lump of Sugar’s Tayutama -Kiss on my Deity- is originally an PC Galgame and it is made into Anime. The story centers on Yuuri Mito, a student at the Sōsei Academy and the only son of the man who runs the Yachimata shrine. At Yachimata, there is a legend of a deity named Tayutayu-sama who protected the area, but this deity and other so-called “Tayutai” have been lost in time. Mito and his friends discover a relic on the school grounds with mysterious patterns on them. Then, at the opening ceremony of the new school year, an equally mysterious girl named Mashiro appears before Mito. Mashiro is somehow tied to the relic and the legend of Tayutayu-sama.

Tears to Tiara (ティアーズ トゥ ティアラ ,Tiāzu tu Tiara) is a Japanese Eroge tactical role-playing game developed by Leaf and originally released for the PC on April 28, 2005 in Japan. It was followed by a 12 years-old and up version released for the PlayStation 3 on July 17, 2008 in Japan, Hong Kong, and Taiwan in which the pornographic content was removed. The PS3 release, entitled Tears to Tiara: Kakan no Daichi (ティアーズ トゥ ティアラ 花冠の大地 ,Tiāzu tu Tiara: Kakan no Daichi), contained several enhancements and additional scenarios, like 3D gameplay and change of character appearances, thus becoming a Remake.
