Anime ChannelJuly 25, 2010Black★Rock Shooter2by Snow 559 days ago Black★Rock Shooter, an one episode OVA probably a lot of you out there have been waiting for. It’s probably almost a year since it got announced and trailers for it showed up. Well this weekend it was released, to be precise on this Saturday. But does the OVA live up to its hype? Spoilers ahead! The OVA starts out like your usual high school series, it’s the first day of school and the protagonist, Kuroi Mato, tries not to be late for the ceremony and whatnot. When Mato arrives she meets Takanashi Yomi and they become best friends. Mato decides to join the basketball club and Yomi joins the volleyball club, their friendship is really strong until their second year where they are in different classes. Mato befriends Yuu, her basketball manager and the two hang out more than Mato did with Yomi. And somehow Yomi disappears and it’s up to Mato to find her. You might ask.. wtf happened to Yomi. Well, I have no idea actually. Somehow Mato and Yomi are fighting in a fantasy checker world and Mato has to win from Yomi to get her back. In the end Mato wins, gets Yomi back and they become great friends again, however Yuu gets left out of the picture this time and I suppose the cycle repeats. Was the OVA worth waiting for? Nope, not really. The art isn’t amazing either, however it is very vibrant in the ‘real’ world. I do like the seiyuus in this OVA, it’s like all the people who worked on Angel Beats!Kana Asumi as Yuu (Irie from Angel Beats and Poplar from Working!!) Kana Hanazawa as Mato Kuroi (Kanade from Angel Beats, Kobato from Kobato, Sakura from Kaichou ) Miyuki Sawashiro as Yomi Takanashi (Iwasawa from Angel Beats!, Canaan from Canaan, Celty from Durarara!!)What more can I say? If you like a mediocre, or even below that, highschool drama you should watch this. The story that revolves in the ‘real world’ is like eating cookies with milk. The part that takes place in the fantasy world, a lot with fighting with guns and scythes, but you don’t really get to know what that world is.
simonsayzhighJuly 25, 2010 I agree that it doesn’t live up to the hype, but it was cute and fun to watch.Reply
