A Week in United States 3

A Week in United States 3

It seems that all my stuffs were always left behind, due to my laziness, probably. Was suppose to write this post last week but it turned out that I am always a lazy bone. Have finished the workshop the school required but still lack of overall concept of the courses. Time to focus on the study since I’ve using “busy” as a excuse for a while. Time to study but next week ^^

A Week in United States 2

A Week in United States 2

Finally moved to my new apartment on Friday. Just relax, thinking I’ve been running all the way, from campus to Walmart, from dorm to library, time to have a rest. Right now I’m living alone and my roommate will arrive soon. Upon the night of moving into the new apartment, some friends and I were invited for a party. The owner of the house Bob is quite a nice guy and we spent the evening on BBQ, studying Bible and staring at the sky. I even saw a shooting star the first time in my life. It was beautiful and charming but I forgot to make a wish. LOL…

A Week in United States 1

A Week in United States 1

Hey guys, nice to have you back here. Regular visitors may know the reason of my disappearing for about an week. As you may have already known, I am in United States right now! I took the flight last weekend from Hong Kong and spent the next 16 hours on the plane before arriving New York. And then took another plane to get to Cleveland. The trip was smooth but the food on the plane is terrible (well, it always be).

Still busy with the university stuffs and am packing up my clothes for the flight next month. Kind of being lazy these days and the site lacks updates for a while, in part of my preparing and reviewing of my college courses (I almost forget them all!), in part of the high usage of the server resource. Tired of looking into the code for optimization, I bought a new hosting plan last week. And today I moved the site to the new hosting company that is hotly discussed these days: WPWebHost.

TheAkiba v3 Starts!

TheAkiba v3 Starts!

Regular visitors may have noticed that the site updated not very often these days. The point is that I’ve been busy working on the application of my graduated study program in US and finally got the offers. Still working on the visa part but it seems that I finally got a chance to go to US and try things that is totally different from my past life. Would very much like your advices on studying aboard and how to survive in cold weather (the school of one of my offers is located in Ohio) ^^

TheAkiba v3 Ready to Start

TheAkiba v3 Ready to Start

Some regular visitors may notice that the thumbnails of the site is much smaller than before. Just received an E-mail and a call from my hosting provider informing that the script used to generate thumbnails using up too much resources and the server suffers. Still fixing the problem and it appears to be some errors in the caching process. Anyway, am using custom fields to display post thumbnails which were used as thumbnails in the Dannychoo Theme.

TheAkiba v2 Starts

TheAkiba v2 Starts

After a couple of weeks on the theme, the second version of TheAkiba is launched. The blog of TheAkiba was set up September 2008 and among these several months I have switched several different themes which now I consider as inadequate for the coming design work. Inspired by Dannychoo’s theme (old version, new layout), I created a Wordpress theme and used it for a few months. Everything seems fine but friends keep on talking about the lack of an identity of a website and to me, a lack of a sense of recognition. For sure, building things basing on other people’s work rarely seems fine to me, and that’s why I hurried for the second theme which aim to discover my own sense of design and aesthetics.

Optimize Your Photos

Optimize Your Photos

In my business courses in college, people describe storage as the evil of evil. What does it mean? You can put it this way, when your business, say, a shoe factory produces lots of shoes. Before selling the products, you will certainly think of putting them aside in the warehouse and this behavior increases your cost and decreases your flexibility. Business always looks for the optimal to avoid these irrational costs and that’s why Just-in-Time (JIT) model was introduced.

It seems that we are getting far away from the topic. What I’m trying to say is no matter how large your HD can be, there’s a limit, don’t let those huge files take up much of your space, especially when those files can be optimized. If you have already know how to optimize the photos, you may skip this article and continue your journey to TheAkiba. If you love your huge size photos and the original quality, skip it too. If you are neither of them, you may continue reading.

Idea of a New Theme

Idea of a New Theme

Friends may notice that the site keeps on changing from time to time. This is because I’m doing some experiments. Remember several friends mentioned in the comment about the identity and style of one’s own, and I’d like to think it over and over. And it’s about time to jump out of the box labeled “Dannychoo” ^^.

I’d like to create a new theme for TheAkiba and at the same time make the website focus more on Anime, even considering remove the unrelated categories. As for the theme, I haven’t started to design the layout but I’m keeping searching on the net and browsing different kinds of sites and tried to get inspired. Will add some new elements to the new theme and remove the unrelated contents.

Gallery Reloaded

Gallery Reloaded

I really want to announce the return of the Anime Gallery but I’d rather keep it stay low. The gallery has disappeared for a while due to the pressure from my previous hosting server. As you know I have transferred all the files to the new hosting server yesterday, and meanwhile I’m working on several different things. And firstly, the return of the gallery.
