Fairy Tail Anime Ending

Kodansha (known for the manga magazines Nakayoshi, Afternoon, Evening, and Weekly Shonen Magazine) has announced yesterday that the Fairy Tail (フェアリーテイル) anime will end on March 30, 2013 as of episode 175. Other sources include  Televi Magazine and Jump SQ. The anime Tanken Driland (探検ドリランド) will be replacing Fairy Tail in it’s current time slot on April 6, 2013. Hiro Mashima (ヒロ 真島), Fairy Tail’s mangaka, has posted the following message on his twitter account today: “Until the time comes, I cannot say something I’ve always wanted to say, even on Twitter. Please be patient and wait until the time comes for me to announce some good news.” Any ideas about what this could mean?

Fairy Tail has been airing from October 12, 2009 and will be completed at 175 episodes on March 30, 2013. Four Fairy Tail OVAs have been aired to this date. A Fairy Tail Movie called Fairy Tail: Houou no Miko (劇場版 FAIRY TAIL 鳳凰の巫女), aired on August 18, 2012.

Well, I would be lying if I said I wasn’t upset about this. I remember watching this when only a few episode were out and I really loved it. I loved the characters and their friendship, the plot and the comedy. It was a joy watching this every week! If it weren’t for the anime, I would have never discovered the manga (which I highly recommend.) Hopefully, this is just a hiatus and the show will return soon. I presume this ending is because of the really low ratings and the fact that the show is getting way too close to the manga. I actually like this better than an entire filler arc.
