There is a game that I recently started and as an Anime fan, you may have already heard of it. Built on both iPhone and Android system, the game Kaku-San-Sei Million Arthur (拡散性ミリオンアーサー) is an online card battle RPG from Square-Enix and developed by Mighty Craft. The opening Animation was done by J.C. Staff, with the song by ChouCho. Also, it is probably our duty to point out that the game scenario was written by Kazuma Kamachi (鎌池 和馬) who “happened” to be the author of the well know light novel Toaru Majutsu no Index (とある魔術の禁書目録) and Toaru Kagaku no Railgun (とある科学の超電磁砲). If you are familiar with the author and the stories which we assume you do, you can already tell what the game will be focused on before we even getting started.
Apart from the above, the cast list of the game is something that you may really put some time on. You can see lots of popular names including Mamoru Miyano (宮野 真守), Rina Satou (佐藤 利奈), Rie Kugimiya (釘宮 理恵), Kanae Itou (伊藤 かな恵), Eri Kitamura (喜多村 英梨), and Yuka Iguchi (井口 裕香). However, the voice system has not yet fully developed and Square-Enix has promised a full featured voice system in the future. Also as an online card game, we cannot fail to mention the card itself. Over 50 really really well-known illustrators have contributed their works to the game, including some big names that we are quite sure you are already familiar with: like Kiyotaka Haimura (灰村キヨタカ), Miho Takeoka (竹岡 美穂), Ryou Nagi (名木良), Suzuhito Yasuda (ヤスダ スズヒト), Takehito Harada (原田 たけひと), Tinkle, VOFAN and so forth.
Well, we’ve just mention loads of names to get your attentions and let’s talk a bit about the story. The official website describes the story as “When 1 million King Arthurs draw 1 million Excaliburs, the story of the true king begins.” In order to play the game, you will need some basic knowledge in Japanese since that’s the only language option for the game, so far. However, the story doesn’t appear to be something really important since it is a card game and you can play however you like.
If you are once a a card game player, you will know the game really costs you money. Luckily, you will need Japanese YEN to do the in-app-purchase and we guess most of our readers are outside Japan and it saves your money by not having that currency! The game turns out to be quite good at doing business and making money by connect with some well-known Anime like Fate/Zero. You will be able to get one card of the Fate/Zero series (ok, mine is Lancer and I want Saber instead) for a limited time.
However, one thing Square-Enix not doing very well was they actually changed the whole system before even letting the users know and all of the sudden, the cards in users’ hand are heavily depreciated because the company introduced some ridiculous system that requires six cards before you can get a “upgrade”, compared with two or three cards for average card games. Square-Enix focusing too much on draining the customers’ wallet and finally lots of users got annoyed and left angry message on 2ch. Later, lots of users left the game before Square-Enix can push out another update to comfort the users. The lesson learned: never play too hard with your customers if you are not a monopoly, there are always alternatives. However, it appears to be a great way to get rid of existing empty-wallet users and attract new ones.
However, regardless whether you like the company or not, as a big fan of Anime, Character Voice and beautiful illustrations, there was no reason for me not to have a try. As you can see from the above screenshot, I chose Eri Kitamura (喜多村 英梨) as the assistant voice and I just loved her voice (well, her voice was much better in C3 and Nisemonogatari). Will continue play the game at the spare time and hope one day we can see Tony or Hiro Suzuhira’s artwork shows up.
Want to get started? Again, sadly, you will need a Japanese iTunes account to download the free application. Here is a tutorial for how to get one without a Japanese credit card. As other referral program, each member will get an invitation code and here is mine:
9869d. Once you fill in the invitation code during the registration, you will be able to get a three to four-star card to get a better start. The card will help you a lot during the early stage. In return, when enough friends use my ID, I will be able to get a five-star card. Get it now on iTunes.
Dec 6. 2012 Due to recent update and the way Square-Enix is promoting the products to new players but leaving the existing players in the dust, I decided not to promote this game any more. The game itself is fine while the company is doing business wrongly.
