Mirai Nikki EP 04-05 Roundup2

Mirai Nikki sure packed a lot of unexpected twists into these last two episodes. For starters, we are now getting to know how much deeper, darker and more evil the plot is becoming. Though many explicit scenes have been depicted as well, all are censored, blurred or darkened. Let’s pick up where we left off in the last review starting with EP 5 (“Voice Memo”). In EP 5, a series of sadistic events unfolds when the protagonist duo Yuki and Yuno attended a so-called cult in which people go to worship the temple priestess “Kasubano Tsubaki”—a girl who was born with an eye defect which enabled her to see clearly at only an arm’s length—who is revealed to be a Mirai Nikki owner. Tsubaki’s dairy is in the form of a scroll that allows her to view all that her followers see, making it quite formidable. Elsewhere underground of the temple, the psychotic man in the last week’s episode, “Hirasaka Yomutsu”, has captured Uryuu and is keeping her captive in a cell. Despite his is blindness and mental illness, he continues to bring to fruition the “heroic events” his diary, “Voice Memo”, has foreseen him doing. As Yuki and Yuno flee from Tsubaki knowing of her ill-intentions, they are confronted by Yomutsu who appears along with four, like-dressed hypnotized cult members (This reminded me of Power Rangers). Fortunately, Yuno manages to trick and ultimately kill him by taking the advantage of his blindness.

Yuno Captured

In spending time confronting Yomutsu, Tsubaki manages to capture Yuno while Yuki escapes. In order to draw Yuki from hiding, Tsubaki issues an ultimatum: exit hiding or an order will be made to have Yuno raped (0.o), prompting Yuki to sprint to her rescue. However, Tsubaki reveals that she was brutally raped as part of a ritual and wished to be a God to create a new world and to undo the past. She further stated that her only light was a hand-woven ball made by her mother which was now lost. Yuki is able to create a diversion and manages to damage Tsubaki’s Diary with a throwing dart on hand. As Tsubaki starts to disappear, she catches a glimpse of the ball that she had once lost and she smiles, accepting her death. Outside the temple, Uryuu who was released from her cell by Yomutsu, gets captured by the detective Keigo. Keigo, instead of taking Uryuu to jail, decides to set her free in return for her phone number so as to contact her.

Yuki and Mom

Episode 6—“Vibrate Mode”—greatly contrasted the previous EP 05, with the climax that had built up in the last episodes notably cooling down as it featured more funny scenes and comedy and not to mention romance. The humor is ushered in from the very beginning, in fact, with Yuno literally breaking in into Yuki’s house so as to prepare to meet Yuki’s mother, returning from abroad. Upon arriving at the house after picking up his mother, Yuki spots the broken window and using his diary, he discovers that Yuno is already inside and has prepared every arrangement to welcome Yuki’s mother. The funny thing was even after all the trouble Yuki went through to hide Yuno, Yuki’s mother eventually found out (Due to Yuno finding Yuki’s stash of ero-magazines), prompting a day of teasing punctuated by Yuno’s saying that she doesn’t mind if they sleep together provided they don’t get a baby yet :) That night Yuno sleeps in Yuki’s room, giving her the opportunity to alert Yuki that even if they don’t sleep together that night, they will eventually do so on a certain date as it is predicted on Yuno’s Diary.

Yuki and Yuno

Over the following few days, Yuki’s mother explains that she will be temporarily taking care of Reisuke Houjou, a four-year-old boy whose parents were killed during the Sacred-Eye incident. Reisuke at first seemed like an innocent boy (as do all loli’s~), but of course, there is more to him than meets the eye. After drawing a picture of Yuno, Reisuke runs toward her while carrying a pair of scissors. Seemingly by accident, he trips stabbing Yuno. Fortunately for Yuno, she was holding a pillow in her arms saving her from a possibly fatal injury. It is later revealed that Reisuke is not an ordinary boy, but actually a Diary owner plotting to kill Yuno and Yuki. And from what we can see thus far, it appears his diary is a picture book.

Reisuke's Nikki

With all of the dynamic events taking place, it seems that each of the chosen Twelve diary owners has a unique story to tell their own equally dynamic twist to add to the plot. Great stuff thus far, looking forward to seeing more.
