Blog ChannelAugust 9, 2010My Anime List (+ Current Season Impressions)5by Snow 549 days ago Hey guys. I’m still relatively new here at TheAkiba but be rest assured I’m already hard at work with the rest of the team to bring you bigger and better things! Just want to thank Snow for giving me the idea for this post. Oh, before I continue my main (wireless) internet connection went down and as a result I’m forced to use a (very) slow wired one, so I won’t be uploading any pictures. Guess the post won’t be pretty =/So anyway, today I’m just going to tell you a bit about what sort of Anime I like. Now for the rest of the post to make sense, I’ll talk about myself for a bit. I live in Australia, which is one of only four countries in the world which sells internet services pretty much by the megabyte (Download quotas). As a result the Internet is quite expensive, not to mention we get lousy caps and the speed is horrible (Around 50th in the world last time I checked). What does this have to do with anything? You’ll see soon enough.I generally take each Anime as they come, so whether it is a Comedy, Romance, Action or whatever else if it’s good, it’s good. One PieceI just love it, everything is great. I’ve only seen up to about just after the Crocodile part in the English Dub versions.Dragon Ball ZAwesome sauce this one is. Back in the day the the fillers didn’t bother me but watching 3 episodes of talking per one episode of fighting is a bit much. This might give you a bit of a laugh.Angel Beats!Another high quality Anime. Yes the pacing issues do cause a few problems but that didn’t matter for me. I’m currently following the Manga for this and anything else I can get my hands on.Clannad (and Clannad After Story)I’ve only recently completed watching every episode (university for the win) and I must say the character and story progression is amazing. The emotional depth is well done too.EscaflowneI have only watched the movie, that’s it. I know there is a manga and a TV show (which is vastly different to the movie). Based on the movie this was fantastic.Appleseed Ex MachinaI haven’t seen anything else besides this, the first action sequence was well choreographed. The other fight scenes were alright. The story was decent although it doesn’t hold up as well as it could for someone who watches it as a stand alone movie.Neon Genesis EvangelionI really don’t know what I’ve seen. I think I’ve seen the first episode and the last movie. I can’t remember. Point is this whatever I saw, I liked it very much.Soul TakerLike the previous point, not sure what I’ve seen. Unlike the previous point I didn’t like it too much.Blood+ (Movie)This hasn’t done any wonders for me.Final Fantasy: Advent ChildrenThis was good, especially since it was enough of a stand alone movie for me to have understood what was going on. I haven’t played the original PlayStation game (I had a N64 back in those days) but I know about the series in general.Astro BoyNot the manga, Not the show in the 80′s and while the movie last year or the year before was enjoyable It’s debatable whether it is ‘good’. I’m referring to the 2003 Animated series. Classic.HellsingAnother show where I’ve only seen a handful of episodes. I’m not the biggest fan of monsters, horror, heavy gore and all related categories but the story was good from what I have seen and the action was done quite tastefully.Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone ComplexThis goes in the same boat as the last point, although I’ve seen quite a number of episodes I haven’t seen it from start to finish. The drama elements and the action scenes are integrated nicely together. There are definitely a few more I wanted to list, but most of these would have been one-off viewings from whatever my DVD store had to offer. Besides the above anime that I haven’t fully finished, I also want to watch Fate/Stay Night and Claymore. Probably a lot more but my memory isn’t what it used to be.Oh, before I finish up I’ll do some impressions of what I am watching from the current anime season. A lot of the Anime I watch is because I found a wallpaper or something else in which I liked the art. The rest is usually from reading impressions/reviews (aka TheAkiba).Amagami SSI’ve seen the first Arc in this new series. Overall this is quite a good one, only some of it’s humour appeals to me but the art design, the characters and nice bit size pieces of story work well.Ookami-san to Shichinin no NakamatachiOne episode watched so far. Some parts I thought were pretty funny. The first episode I enjoyed enough to warrant watching the rest of it.tl;dr – I like Anime. If you want to see what I do outside TheAkiba you can visit here.
SnowAugust 9, 2010 If you need recommendations on good series you could always ask YoU and me =). Since your list is still quite small there are a lot of series that pop into my head that you’d like. For starters I’d say watch, Code Geass, Full metal alchemist – Brotherhood and Kanon(2006).Hope to see that list quadruple in the upcoming year =p.Reply
shane3xAugust 9, 2010 Code Geass and Kanon are on my “want to watch but probably won’t have too much time for” list, which I didn’t include =/I might give FMA a chance, but honestly I’ve never liked any of the screenshots, wallpapers or whatever else I’ve seen over the years.Reply
SnowAugust 9, 2010 It takes a while to get into the story, but once you’re in.. you don’t want to come out! One of thé best series I’ve seen, thé best series that span over more than 50 episodes (not including second seasons) I’ve seen. FMA is actually one of the series with which I started back in ’04 or something, but recently watched Brotherhood and it just tops the one of ’04.
G-ANAugust 9, 2010 We only have the same taste on One Piece, Angel Beats! and FF. While story line is important I am also very fussy about how the character look like(character design). Reply
YoUAugust 13, 2010 Somo of them are old stuffs but I am a huge fan of One Piece and it’s one of the only two long-running Anime that I actually follow till now (the other one is Conan). Compared to Naruto and Bleach which I dropped a long time ago, One Piece is way better in plot.Reply
