Recommended Anime of April 2014

Guess we are late for the recommendation of the season but here we are. The season was, not so great as it supposed to be when we first brought the entire list to our readers last month. I did spend some time to follow up the episodes and some of the great series just disappointed me, guess I was having too much expectation. Nevertheless, there are some really shinning dark horses in the season and one of them is Sidonia no Kishi (シドニアの騎士), a 3D TV Animation that is as good as Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio (蒼き鋼のアルペジオ) in last October. If you haven’t checked out our new Anime list, it is time.

Gerard, one of our latest members came up with his thoughts about some series, like Bokura wa Minna Kawaisou (僕らはみんな河合荘) and Haikyuu!! (ハイキュー!!), check them out if you are interested.

Selector Infected WIXOSS

Selector Infected WIXOSS / セレクター infected WIXOSS (EP12)

One of the most successful series of the season. By successful, it refers to the sales of the related produces, the card game in the Japanese market. The original Animation works great as a promotion and marketing strategy for the company and of course, the story is interesting enough to attract fans. The story seems a bit towards the dark side and a bit of of cliche classic of middle school.

Mushishi Zoku Shou

Mushishi Zoku Shou / 蟲師 続章

If you don’t remember the first season of the series, it is common. This is the second season of the TV Anime and we are more than excited to know that the quality is as good as the first one. The story of Mushi and people are interesting, yet heartwarming and a pleasure to follow.

Seikoku no Dragonar

Seikoku no Dragonar / 星刻の竜騎士

Another light novel adaptation of the season and we’ve already enjoyed the show. Based on dragon and riders, the story is interesting and not as cliche as other similar adaptations, and of course, full of fan services.

Love Live!

Love Live! Second Season / ラブライブ! School idol project 2期

Links: Official Website | On Air: April 4, 2014

Second season of the series and as we were about to say that the quality is as great as the first season, the series actually disappointed us in its latest episode (episode 6) with all kinds of failure. The story is the same old school idols competition and nine members are in the lesser side compared to something more than 48. If you are interested in cute girls and idol industry, you should follow the show.

Captain Earth

Captain Earth / キャプテン・アース

Guess the story reminds lots of people of Gurren Lagann (天元突破グレンラガン), kid for kid and drills for guns. The story sure attracts loads of fans and yet it is still too early to determine whether this is a reproduction based on Gurren Lagann or simply something better.

Gokukoku no Brynhildr

Gokukoku no Brynhildr / 極黒のブリュンヒルデ

Links: Official Website | On Air: April 6, 2014

A kind reminder, this is a series full of battle and blood, and something unpleasure for some folks. Apart from that, it is a good one with a story of darkness which we can somehow derive from the title.

Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei

Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei / 魔法科高校の劣等生

Links: Official Website | On Air: April 6, 2014

Probably the most well received series of the season if you are a believer. The story is fill with how invisible our male protagonist is and how popular he is in the school surrounded by all sorts of cute girls. This somehow reminds us of Sword Art Online where we have a similar male protagonist. It is difficult to comment on scenes where Tatsuya beats up all the opponents in seconds yet the story is still interesting to follow.

Black Bullet

Black Bullet / ブラック・ブレット

Links: Official Website | On Air: April 8, 2014

Another series filled with all sorts of Lolis, and our male protagonist enjoys all sorts of happiness surrounding them. But have to say this is a really good story despite the setting being a bit, common or, weird.

No Game No Life

No Game No Life / ノーゲーム・ノーライフ

The bright color of the animation suddenly reminds me of Mondaiji-tachi ga Isekai kara Kuru Sou Desu yo? (問題児たちが異世界から来るそうですよ?) which I am still wishing for a second season. The game setting is yet quite similar to the story we just mentioned and our male protagonist is yet quite similar to our accusation. The TV Anime was well received and guess it just stands out.

Gochuumon wa Usagi Desu ka?

Gochuumon wa Usagi Desu ka? / ご注文はうさぎですか?

A series filled with cute Lolis, or Loli shaped girls.

Sidonia no Kishi

Sidonia no Kishi / シドニアの騎士

Links: Official Website | On Air: April 11, 2014

This is serially the dark horse of the season. The characters in 3D didn’t attract many attentions in the first place, but very soon the battle and the story shines and we soon have some believers. The sales of the Blu-ray and DVD raises and we are even more enjoying the show. If I have to recommend only one show in the season, it is Sidonia no Kishi, period.

Date A Live II

Date A Live II / デート・ア・ライブ II (EP10)

If you did pay attention to the promotion illustration on the website of the series, you should be well prepared and indeed, the quality of the TV Anime of the second season failed all of us. The animation is terrible and the character design is like daily soap drama. Guess they just invested too much in the first season and we still remember the great and movie quality animation. Other than that, it is still worth the wait.
