It’s time to make some recommendations. We have around 20 series this winter and judging from the first one or two episodes, most of them are quite above my expectation. And of course, some are way below but it is all depends on whether you like it or not. If you haven’t started to follow the new series, maybe you should check out our winter Anime list here.
Rinne no Lagrange / 輪廻のラグランジェ (12 eps)
Ten seconds after starting the first episode of Rinne no Lagrange, I came up with an idea that the series could be the best of the whole season. And when I finished watching the show, I was confident that it is my favorite series this winter. The graphics, the character design, the music are all beyond my expectation. Even though the series might be a bit weak in the story, it is quite my type and I basically enjoy watching every second of the show. And now I cannot find any reasons not to recommend to my readers.
Natsume Yuujinchou 4th Season / 夏目友人帳 肆 (12 eps)
You may always know that Natsume Yuujinchou is one of my favorite and most expected series since the previous season. Two consecutive seasons are a gift to all the fans. As usual, the series is of high quality, both in terms of graphics and story.
Amagami SS+ / アマガミSS+ (12 eps)
Amagamis SS+ is another quite nice series this season. For fans who finished watching the first season, you probably feeling far from enough since the story of each female protagonist only has four episodes. In this second season, we have two episodes for each heroines and the first one is Tsukasa Ayatsuji (絢辻 詞). As usual, the series is of high quality and plenty of fan services.
Zero no Tsukaima Final / ゼロの使い魔F (12 eps)
You don’t need me to tell you how I have been expecting this for a long time. As the final season of the series, Zero no Tsukaima does not fail us and in fact, has a much higher quality than all the three seasons before. And of course, the story of the Anime is quite different from the original novel. Thus for fans who want to know what happens in the original story, you may want to keep an eye on the novel which scheduled to finish in this year.
Ano Natsu de Matteru / あの夏で待ってる (12 eps)
The story gives me a feeling of AnoHana (Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae o Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai, あの日見た花の名前を僕達はまだ知らない, lit. We Still Don’t Know the Name of the Flower We Saw That Day), probably because they are both directed by Tatsuyuki Nagai (長井 龍雪) and the character design are both done by Masayoshi Tanaka (田中 将賀). But the backgrounds of the stories are quite different. If you still remember what I have put it in the previous post about the mysterious creature, you will know that the story is about the love between human and alien :)
Another / アナザー (12 eps)
Links: Official Website | On Air: January 9, 2012
I don’t quite follow horror series but decided to take look at this series just because it is produced by P.A. Works, the studio produced lots of great series like True Tears, Canaan, Angel Beats! and Hanasaku Iroha. At this point, I cannot tell how the series can develop in the upcoming episodes. But if you like the studio and high quality Anime, you won’t want to miss it. And you should be quite confident on the story since the original novel won lots of awards.
Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou / 男子高校生の日常 (12 eps)
This is definitely the most interesting series of the season. It’s full of jokes and “Tsukkomi” (突っ込み). And it’s all about high school boys. For those who are tired of series full of high school girls being Moe, you should definitely check out this one.
Papa no Iu Koto o Kikinasai! / パパのいうことを聞きなさい！ (26 eps)
I heard some people compared this series to Usagi Drop. You probably don’t agree with it if you haven’t read the novel, or at least learned a bit about the story. For fans who just watched the first episode, you probably would consider it as a Harem or fan services series. However, if you decide to drop it at this point, you may miss a lot. The settings are actually quite similar to Usagi Drop and you will learn it in the following few episodes. And of course, the series is full of Harem and fan services and that will also attract your attention in the first place.
Inu x Boku SS / 妖狐×僕SS (12 eps)
Links: Official Website | On Air: January 12, 2012
It is another quite nice series of the season. Though our protagonist reminds me of Yamada in WORKING!, she does have a totally different characteristic and much more sexy.
Series I also Follow
Nisemonogatari / 偽物語 (13 eps)
I am not a fan of either Nisio Isin (西尾 維新) or Akiyuki Shinbo (新房 昭之) yet I decided to follow the series purely because I think people else will watch it. And sometimes, it is important that you know the trend and how people think about it. It turns out to be just fine as Bakemonogatari (化物語).
Aquarion EVOL / アクエリオンEVOL (26 eps)
I didn’t watch the first season but I do like the music of the series, and it is probably all it is about. The first two episodes appear to be quite good overall, and have lots of fan services. With a cast staff duplicated from Guilty Crown, again, I am more interested in Zessica than the heroine Mikono. Probably due to the Hanazawa effect.
Mouretsu Pirates / モーレツ宇宙海賊 (26 eps)
Links: Official Website | On Air: January 7, 2012
A series of quite average quality but I quite like the setting and background. A series about space pirates with operators all from high school and of course, they are all female. However, the series quite focuses on details and it’s interesting.
High School DxD / ハイスクールDxD (12 eps)
Links: Official Website | On Air: January 6, 2012
I was not very interested in the series since it’s all about Harem and fan services. However, when I read some introductions and watched the first episode, I started to like it. Even it is Harem, the story itself does quite competitive to other series of similar genres. And of course, it’s AT-X and it’s NSFW. Please take our age into consideration.
