Recommended Anime of July 2013

It’s a bit late for this month’s recommendation but here we go. At the first glance, it appears there are few series that you might really want to follow but digging further, after watch the first episode of most, there are, indeed some good ones out there. We have several sequel series like Rozen Maiden (ローゼンメイデン), Senki Zesshou Symphogear G (戦姫絶唱シンフォギアG), Ro-Kyu-Bu! SS (ロウきゅーぶ! SS), Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai (神のみぞ知るセカイ) that you may want to follow if you are following the series. And for those who haven’t checked out our new Anime guide for this summer, it’s time.

Our protagonist was killed and turned into a dog. Though some part of the story may attract the attention of ASPCA, it is generally an interesting series, with all kinds of Hentai showing up in each episode.

Well this is definitely not a hard core Yaoi series and some males actually showed interest toward our “female protagonist”. Despite the rumor, it is a great sports Anime with Kyoto Animation quality.

Stella Jogakuin Koutou-ka C3-bu

Stella Jogakuin Koutou-ka C³-bu / ステラ女学院高等科C³部

We continue to see more and more Anime of military subject, and this one though is mainly focus on survive game. The only glitch is, there appears to be few cute girls around and even our female protagonist Yura cut her hair after a terrible miss. It somehow remind me of Sakuragi from Slam Dunk, the only difference is Sakuragi class changed to a monk while Yura becomes a total different person with the ability to communicate to ghost.

Servant x Service

Servant x Service / サーバント×サービス

Civil servant is probably not a fun occupation but still loved by many due to its stability. The Anime brings us some  interesting clips in the daily life of protagonists’ daily life in the office, based on the real experience of the author.

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya / Fate/kaleid liner プリズマ☆イリヤ

Probably the Anime that was spent most fund on and you can see all kinds of shining effects you could normally expect from a decent movie. As a spin-off of Fate/stay night, the series still creates another original female protagonist.

Monogatari Series: Second Season

Monogatari Series: Second Season / 〈物語〉シリーズ セカンドシーズン

The story continues with Nekomonogatari (Black), the OVAs released early this year. It is definitely one of the best of the series. Newcomers might still have a difficult time to cope with Akiyuki Shinbo’s (新房 昭之) low cost yet well-sold style of directing. And for old fans, it will be a two-cour series with lots of fun.

Kamisama no Inai Nichiyoubi

Kamisama no Inai Nichiyoubi / 神さまのいない日曜日

The story has a quite unique world setting featuring gravekeeper, the only person that can actually “kill” others by burying them in the world that nobody dies. After the first three episodes, our protagonist finally starts her journal.

Fantasista Doll

Fantasista Doll / ファンタジスタドール

The story itself is a bit cliche but interesting, though the quality of animation really disappointed me and probably others who had some expectations due to the early visual.

High School DxD New

High School DxD New / ハイスクールD×D NEW

Second season of the series and with even more Oppai and Harem. Definitely one of the best of the season. For folks who haven’t watched the Anime, it is worth to try out. It’s a bit NSFW and you are warned.

BLOOD LAD

BLOOD LAD / ブラッドラッド

Links: Official Website | On Air: July 7, 2013

The story follows a vampire and a high school girl who became a ghost. It’s an interesting series and definitely recommended.

Gin no Saji

Gin no Saji / 銀の匙

Instead of go to a normal high school with lots of cute high school girls, our male protagonist Hachiken decided to leave his family and went for an agriculture school. He is now facing daily problems dealing with difficult agricultural life. However, life is full of things you cannot expect and Hachiken started to enjoy his life here. It’s a great series full of interesting and small heartwarming scenes.

Choujigen Game Neptune: The Animation

Choujigen Game Neptune: The Animation / 超次元ゲイム ネプテューヌ THE ANIMATION

Was not very interested in the series due to an expectation that the series was a pure business product. It turned out to be, indeed full of fan service scenes but still, quite unique as a game adaptation. It’s an interesting series with a great cast list, and cute girls.

Gatchaman Crowds

Gatchaman Crowds / ガッチャマン クラウズ

Links: Official Website | On Air: July 12, 2013

One of the unique series of the season though trying too hard to be unique and fans may end up with a feeling of pushing too hard, which lead to people drop the series after the first episode. But as you continue, the female protagonist may seem to be more acceptable and the Galaxy system might just be the next product startups try to invent.
