Recommended Anime of January 20117

It’s time for the recommended Anime of the season. Since most of the series have been aired about two weeks, it’s a reasonable time for us to make some choices and make the best use of our time available. Of course, this is somehow a personal preference but take it as an option when you make your own watch list.

IS <Infinite Stratos> / IS <インフィニット・ストラトス> (12 episodes)

http://www.tbs.co.jp/anime/is/

One of the best of the season. A little bit pity about the male protagonist since the characteristic of him is way too common nowadays and cannot even motivate me a bit. Still, the story itself is worth reading and definitely the Anime as well.

Yumekui Merry / 夢喰いメリー (12 episodes)

Haven’t dig very much into the series but so far it impressed me somehow. Right at the first time that I read the news about the series and the female protagonist, I came up with an idea that the Character Voicer of she can 90% be Rie Kugimiya (釘宮 理恵) and I was proved to be wrong :)

GOSICK / ゴシック (12 episodes)

So far the series is quite acceptable to me though I don’t really like Loli :) And it does have some reason for ranking the top in our new season watch list Poll.

Freezing / フリージング (12 episodes)

Kind of remind me of Queen’s Blade which I still haven’t finished watched a single episode. The video quality of the series is not good at this moment and guess it could be much better after the release of DVD or BR. 4:3 is just a pain for me to continue. Not very much interested in the series but if you like series of the similar kind as Queen’s Blade, you may want to add it to your watch list.

Oniichan no Koto Nanka Zenzen Suki Janain Dakara ne!! / お兄ちゃんのことなんかぜんぜん好きじゃないんだからねっ!! (12 episodes)

http://www.starchild.co.jp/special/oniichan/

This is just too Ecchi. Well actually not very much and it doesn’t seem to go across the line. Back to story, okay, it’s about how the younger sister “induce” and “seduce” her elder brother by providing all kinds of “services” :) It’s full of humor but somehow in the latest episode turned out to be something I doubted. Let’s just focus on the fun side and enjoy watching the series.

Beelzebub / べるぜバブ (12 episodes)

Have read few chapters of the Manga before and it was really good a story. Guess it could last for a long time and hope it will go beyond one season.

Recommended Anime of January 2011

Dragon Crisis! / ドラゴンクライシス! (12 episodes)

Very impressed by the first episode, not just because of the beautiful lady and the lucky male protagonist, the story itself seems to be a serious one. Haven’t read the novel and If I got it wrong, correct me.

Kore wa Zombie Desu ka? / これはゾンビですか? (12 episodes)

http://newtype.kadocomic.jp/zombie/

Definitely my favorite series of the season. The overall quality is just supreme. Cute girls and an undead boy… Didn’t know too much about the series before and will not make any assumption or look for plots on the web since doing these will more or less ruin my expectations.

The Onii-chan Anime to me is definitely not worth watching nor does it deserve to be recommended. There is no plot or story to be interested in, it’s just a Sister trying to get her Brother to love her, that’s it, nothing else… Already been done before, worthless

It might be worthless to you, but it seems to be the current hot trend in otaku-dom. I for one still like my Seitokai MUCH more (with or without rock), but seeing I am still behind on watching Haruhi I got this fetish of mine covered ><

As the current season stands (asside onii-chan) I think I will eventually grab the uncensored version of Freezing (if for nothing else for the look-a-like to Sekirei which I adore) and will give my best at following Gossick and Beelzebub, they are just THAT awesome for me to break my habit of marathoning stuff and watch those on weekly basis.

Kore wa Zombie Desu ka? and Yumekui Merry are currently on my "maybe" list considering they are gathering some inertia… same case as IS. It's those kinds of shows that you just know what will happen from start to finish but are still entertaining if their production values are kept high and/or they don't pull something to completely ruin it like a bad twist or a kampfer-like ending.

The rest is quite passable actually, even Fractale… really, I head so many good things about it but it seems so much boring and cliché. Knowing the writter and Yamakan I still have some hopes, but If I ever get to watch it, I will go with a ton of precaution ¬¬

you should totally give Level E a shot. it’s worth watching! it’s the best one i’ve watched so far.

Yeah, I indeed watched the first episode of Level E and love the ED of the series. It’s performed by ViViD and just awesome. Highly recommend to everyone.

I honestly don’t know why Madoka is so low. Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica is the ONE anime of the season that has actually left me wanting more with every episode, aside from Kimi ni Todoke. Why shows like Dragon Crisis and IS and Freezing are above it is beyond me. I like all of those shows, don’t get me wrong, but Madoka just seems much more, gee, I dunno…original? I’m hoping that the low popularity is due to the fact that Madoka still hasn’t become a magical girl after 3 episodes, but I really do hope it picks up. :<

  • nmontes

Don’t let yourself be fooled by the first 2 episodes of Madoka Magica, the show is actually one of the best this season. In fact the writer is Urobochi GEN, of Nitroplus fame (just search for Saya no Uta in wikipedia and you’ll know what kind of story Madoka actually is).

@eizeral @nmontes: Yes, I indeed watched the first episode of Madoka Magica and it was ok for me but may not follow it somehow. But it’s great that you guys pointed out and the series appears to be highly welcomed on many forums.
