Under Channel: AnimeFinal Impressions: Ano Natsu de Matteru; Goodbye?3by saitohama 52 days ago Goodbye? Yea, well, as much as this is an appropriate one-liner for the finale of the fantastic Ano Natsu de Matteru series, it also marks the unfortunate the end of my anime blogging “career” (or hobby, rather) and my leave from TheAkiba. But on the brighter side, Ano Natsu has more than exceeded my expectations, and as the series finale will attest, it’s a beautiful love story.
Under Channel: AnimeUpcoming Changes and Ano Natsu de Matteru EP 08 Review2by saitohama 77 days ago As many of you have probably noticed, growing strain from external projects has prompted many of the series being reviewed to either swap hands or in a worst case scenario, be dropped completely, so we’ve discussed and decided to make a few minor modifications to the posting schedule of the site, especially to that of the episodic reviews—not to worry though, not that much will change!
Under Channel: AnimeAno Natsu de Matteru EP 07 – Sempai’s Feelings2by saitohama 88 days ago Well we seem to have hit that “climactic middle” where a series ties up its exposition and proceeds to charge forward into the core of the story’s premise—often times in a new direction than its preface, which can propel the show towards success or actuate its demise. Fortunately, Ano Natsu choreographed this one perfectly, and its reassuring to know that my read on anime hasn’t degenerated completely as Kaori’s reasons for making a brash move at Kaito were pretty much what I had predicted.
Under Channel: AnimeAno Natsu de Matteru EP 06 – A Rival for Sempai0by saitohama 94 days ago I continue to be amazed by the success—both by the story and the flawless implementation of fresh, unadulterated enjoyment—of season frontrunner Rinne no Lagrange, and if there’s a series that could match it perfectly by the following criteria, it would be Ano Natsu de Matteru hands down. Both have undoubtedly made a name for themselves in the short span since their debut, which only attests to their achievement.
Under Channel: AnimeAno Natsu de Matteru EP 05 – Sempai is the Heroine3by saitohama 102 days ago That’s three points for Kuroda Yousuke for employing yet another perfectly-timed and captivating cliffhanger. As for a solution to the “fifth wheel” dilemma, I’m beginning to believe the only way for things to end peaceably is to end the series as a harem with two boys and three girls. Why not?
Under Channel: AnimeAno Natsu de Matteru EP 04 – Sempai Was Amazing5by saitohama 109 days ago Simply walking away and acting like it never happened isn’t a terrible way of escaping that awkward moment when you find out that someone likes you. It may not be a permanent solution to the problem at hand, but it’s probably the best choice when your both living under the same roof.
Under Channel: AnimeAno Natsu de Matteru EP 03 – Sempai Said it. . .16by saitohama 114 days ago Ano Natsu de Matteru played a perfect hand this week in following up a heated night of drinking and games with a mellow, yet nonetheless hilarious day cast in all the right places in terms of setting. By now I have myself convinced that my knack for choosing the ‘winners from the losers’ each season on the first try is not much of a “knack” at all—I’m wrong nearly every time!
Under Channel: AnimeAno Natsu de Matteru EP 02 – Together with Sempai. . .6by saitohama 124 days ago Using her alien vocabulary and impressive sempai-maturity (… and class-act sob story), Ichika has managed to make the transition from seductress to house-sitter while Nagami is off on business. And there to make sure things remain uneventful and PG-rated is the jealous and accusatory Kanna-chan.
Under Channel: AnimeRecommended Anime of January 20126by YoU 127 days ago It’s time to make some recommendations. We have around 20 series this winter and judging from the first one or two episodes, most of them are quite above my expectation. And of course, some are way below but it is all depends on whether you like it or not. If you haven’t started to follow the new series, maybe you should check out our winter Anime list.
Under Channel: AnimeFirst Impressions: Ano Natsu de Matteru9by saitohama 132 days ago When I first saw the announcement of Ano Natsu de Matteru, of course I was anticipating Nagai Tatsuyuki’s experience in directing the fantastic Ano Hana series to pull out a similar romantic comedy, but I was shocked to see just how similar the latter is to the prior. The obvious tip-off would be the character design, but even the lead—wild hair, brown eyes—possesses an uncanny similarity to Ano Hana’s male lead, Jintan.
