href="http://theakiba.com/gallery/">Anime Gallery but I’d rather keep it stay low. The gallery has disappeared for a while due to the pressure from my previous hosting server. As you know I have transferred all the files to the new hosting server yesterday, and meanwhile I’m working on several different things. And firstly, the return of the gallery.

This is really a hard decision to make not because of whether to restart the gallery or not, but which script to use. As you know TheAkiba Anime Gallery is now using Gallery2 but the script itself has lots of defects apart from its huge size. The script generates lots of “useless” cache files which are originally try to ease the heavy load and improve the overall performance of the gallery but I don’t really think that’s a good way. Not only because of it using up too much server resources but also the code itself become bureaucratic. Despite all its defects Gallery2 is still the best online photo management script I have ever seen. It will be much better if the script was optimized into a light weight one like Zenphoto. Luckily, the official website has announced the new project of Gallery3 last December. Not sure when the beta will be released but the only thing I can do is to hope the day will soon come.

So far I’ve also find several other scripts as candidates for the gallery but few of them satisfy my needs. And the only choice for me remains Gallery2. But whatsoever, the gallery now is back, I’m not sure when it will be closed in the future but I’d like to avoid doing this by implementing several rules, specify as below.

Register to view the original size scans. This is an old rule but so far I have few ways to prevent the bandwidth from being stolen. This might be a little bit inconvenient but it will decrease the over usage of the server resources and keep the gallery long alive. Hotlinking is strictly banned and please do not do this.

Clean or Unclean, what’s the bottom line? The goal of this gallery was to collect all the Artbooks, Doujinshis and Anime related scans on the Internet in the first place but as it grew problems aroused. Lots of Doujinshis out there are only suitable for mature viewers. Should we put them into the gallery? So far I have no idea about this but I’d like to keep it clean. Tell me what you think.

Oops! Just forget to mention something. About the name of those artbooks and Doujinshis. There’re lots of them out there so I really don’t have time to translate every words into English. Do you read Japanese?

Note: There is a poll embedded within this post, please visit the site to participate in this post's poll.
<ul
