Picking up from where I left off in episode 07, Mirai Nikki has definitely introduced many surprises, from stalkers and murderers to terrorists and psychos, really covering it all. What intrigues me is the ability of the anime to balance its fast-paced sequences with the more gentle lovey-dovey scenes in equal doses. Even Yuno, yes, Yuno the crazy-in-love psychotic stalker murderer does go overboard sometimes, but that’s what makes the anime exciting. Yuki on the other hand, is a normal boy trying to fall in love with a “normal” girl, unfortunately Yuno’s erratic behavior tends to hinder his goal.

Mirai Nikki sure packed a lot of unexpected twists into these last two episodes. For starters, we are now getting to know how much deeper, darker and more evil the plot is becoming. Though many explicit scenes have been depicted as well, all are censored, blurred or darkened. Let’s pick up where we left off in the last review starting with EP 5 (“Voice Memo”).

Episode 03 starts off with Yuki and Yuno at an amusement park, sent by Keigo so as to lure in Uryuu, the Ninth Mirai Nikki owner. In the mean time, we are treated to a few great romantic moments as the two explore the many attractions. While riding the giant wheel, Yuki inquires of Yuno as to why she always keeps such a close tab on him, prompting an unexpected response detailing a promise that had been made a year prior in which she promised to be Yuki’s future bride. Even after hearing a blatant confessions of sorts, Yuki still has his doubts that Yuno may be concealing more than she is letting on.

The episode starts off as Yuki is rudely reintroduced to the complex power of the Mirai Nikki as he receives his 40th email from Yuno, despite never having given it out. The following day, Yuki goes to school and receives the news that his Homeroom teacher Hiyama-sensei is absent and that substitute teacher will be currently taking his place. While in class, Yuki furiously scours for ideas on how to control his Mirai Nikki and reluctantly decides to consult Yuno for advice with no other options.

This new anime adaptation kicks off with a good start. Mirai Nikki displayed high content quality along with stunning graphics. This anime is very related to the real world and would make fans think “What if we actually had a real Future Diary and can know what the future awaits?”. Adapted from a recently ended Manga series of the same title, it promises the ability to shatter the record of popularity of its manga series. I’m hopeful for the future of the series and can’t wait for the surprises to come.
