Mahoutsukai no Yoru

After several times of delay, TYPE-MOON‘s latest work Mahoutsukai no Yoru (魔法使いの夜, A Magician’s Night, Witch on the Holy Night) was finally released last month on April 12. As part of the TYPE-MOON’s 10th anniversary plan, we just learned that the series will have a total of three parts. As an ADV game, Mahoutsukai no Yoru appears to lack of the traditional way of selecting from options and different routes. For better description, the series is a pure visual novel, without even voice casts. But the character design really stands out. Featuring Hirokazu Koyama (こやまひろかず), all the characters are just lovely and the novel is a pleasure to read. Personally like Alice Kuonji (久遠寺有珠) over Aoko Aozaki (蒼崎青子) and you can tell that from my avatar.

According to ANN, in an recent interview with 4Gamer, Kinoko Nasu (奈須きのこ), the co-founder and the writer behind all the TYPE-MOON’s works, revealed that the two sequels of the series were already in works, and the series’s story “starts in earnest” with the second game. In the recent issue of printed Asahi Shimbun (朝日新聞), TYPE-MOON was considered to be the best brand in the light novel game industry (Tweet and Pic).

In addition, Nasu also talked about the future plan of the company. He noted that TYPE-MOON will take RPG Fate/Extra CCC as their first priority, and also work on the remake of Tsukihime (月姫, Lunar Princess), which has been expected for years by fans (yes, we do!). As for the 3rd volume of the DDD (Decoration Disorder Disconnection) novel series, Nasu would return to work after Mahoutsukai no Yoru is finished. Taking the delay of the series into consideration, recalling that we first mentioned about the release of Mahoutsukai no Yoru in more than three years ago, we assume it would take another few years.

For illustration fans, as a relatively new artist, Hirokazu Koyama (こやまひろかず) is responsible for the whole Mahoutsukai no Yoru series. Personally quite like his style compared with Takashi Takeuchi (武内崇), another co-founder and illustrator of Fate series. I do have to say both illustrators in TYPE-MOON are of great talent and they happened to be in the same company, together with Nasu, creating a legend that no other company in this industry can catch up with.

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya Anime Announced

According to the latest issue of Comptiq magazine, the Anime adaptation of Manga series Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya was announced. Written by Kalmia, Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya is a spin-off Manga series of TYPE-MOON’s Fate/stay night. Featuring Illya as the main character where she lives in an alternate life as a school girl but chosen by the Magical Stick Ruby and is involved in a quarrel between Rin (Kaleido Ruby) and Luvia (Kaleido Sapphire). For those who have heard about TYPE-MOON’s Carnival Phantasm might get a bit familiar with those names. To learn more about the series and the Manga, check out Wikia.

Talking about Fate/stay night, we mentioned another spin-off of the series Fate/Apocrypha. And the second part of TV Anime Fate/Zero will be aired starting next month, pretty much to expect.

Fate/Apocrypha: New Project of TYPE-MOON

Source reveals that in the upcoming 7th volume of TYPE-MOON ACE, a new project named Fate/Apocrypha will be announced on December 15. As you might not have learned, according to ANN, Fate/Apocrypha was firstly revealed as an online game set during the story’s Holy Grail War but failed to be released. The latest volume of the magazine will also include a demo of the upcoming Mahoutsukai no Yoru (魔法使いの夜, Witch of the Holy Night) (well, I think it has been delayed for quite a while since 2009) and a mascot figure (which is what I really want).

So far we don’t have any clue about the new project. Well, it could be a great online game and image you can fight for your own Holy Grail. But from what we can see in the below images, it could either be a PSP battle game or similar kinds. But what surprises me is that neither Takashi Takeuchi (武内崇) or Hirokazu Koyama (こやまひろかず, visit blog) is the illustrator of the new project. Which also means we can have a lot to expect.

Fate/Extra Caster by Phat! Company

Quite pretty PVC figure of Caster from PSP game series Fate/Extra (フェイト/エクストラ). Pretty well down on the details and her costume is very attractive. Fate/Extra (AM, PA) is a Japanese dungeon role-playing game for PSP. It is based on the original PC game series Fate/stay night by TYPE-MOON. She is ready to be released in November at a price around 7400 JPY. You can pre-order from J-List, Play-Asia, CDJapan and Amazon Japan.

A little doubt about her super high heel and wonder how she fights during the war.

Mawaru Penguindrum: Recommended Anime of the Season

Guess most of you may not know about this series Mawaru Penguindrum and it does not even exist on our latest TV Anime preview of the season. Guess I just missed it. But if you are following Anime bloggers, reviewers or even Japanese websites, you may get to know how the first episode of the series has just blown everyone’s mind away. It was so good that even Kinoko Nasu (奈須きのこ) from TYPE-MOON shows his appreciation in his diary.

Directed by Kunihiko Ikuhara (幾原邦彦), who is also a famous director for his past work like the classic Sailor Moon, Mawaru Penguindrum (輪るピングドラム) is a brand new series began airing on July 8, 2011, which gives us a story revolves around a Takakura family with only the three children: the younger sister Himari, brother Kamba and Shoma. The younger sister has a deadly disease which may kill her at any moment and it did in the first episode. However, Himari was revived by the force of a mysterious girl (or the penguin hat) which ultimately lead the family into a game called survive strategy.

With the same voice actor (Ryohei Kimura, 木村良平) as the male protagonist of Eden of the East, I first had a feeling that it is quite a similar series in the first place. I like his voice very much and he seems to be very good at monologue and gives me a hint that Mawaru Penguindrum can become even more attractive than Eden of the East.

Mawaru Penguindrum is a series with full of expectation and what’s even better, it has a whole two seasons, i.e. 24 episodes in total. And what’s more for sure, the mascot penguin of the series will sure blow the market away in the following months.

Quick Look: Fate/Zero Anime Adaptation Confirmed, Coming October

And finally, it comes. It is confirmed that the long waited Anime series Fate/Zero (フェイト/ゼロ) is coming this October. It was the third hit of the series after TV Anime of Fate/stay night (2006) and the movie of Unlimited Blade Works in 2010.

Fate/Zero is a prequel to Type-Moon’s visual novel Fate/stay night, written by Gen Urobuchi (虚淵玄) and illustrated by Takashi Takeuchi (武内崇). The storyline of Fate/Zero takes place 10 years prior to the events of Fate/stay night, detailing the events of the 4th Holy Grail War in Fuyuki City. The War of the Holy Grail, pursuing the power of the “Holy Grail” which grants a miracle, this is a contest in which seven magi summon seven Heroic Spirits to compete for it. In that battle whose conclusion was postponed three times, now, the fourth war commenced again. (via Wikipedia)

It’s good to finally see Saber still be voiced by Ayako Kawasumi (川澄綾子) again. And for the music this time, will be performed by Yuki Kajiura (梶浦由記), the genius in the Japanese music industry. For those who cannot wait for October, check out the official website for more events coming.

Have You Ever Received Chocolates on Valentine's Day?

Hello folks, it’s time to be honest now. Have you ever received chocolates on Valentine’s Day? To be the first, I have to say no. It was not a traditional culture that giving chocolate as a present in my country but we did see things being changed these days. It’s a more business orientated than we could expected but looking into the Anime, or even the pop culture of Japan, the Valentine’s Day does have lots of impact on the main stream.
Shibuya246 had an interesting survey on this topic and am sure you would like to check it out. What about you, tell us about your Valentine’s Day.

Last but not least, noticed the nice pic above, it’s an Anime made by combing all the series of TYPE-MOON together and will be aired in this year or next, named TAKE MOON. The specific date was not confirmed but will bring up latest updates upon further news.

Fate/Recapture -original songs collection-

Another album released by TYPE-MOON as the preparation of the coming movie in January. The CD cover is really well design and Saber looks beautiful in her blond hair. Several tracks are reproduced and are voiced by other artists. The album seems focus on the game side of the series, including both PC and PlayStation 2 platform. Am really looking forward to watch the movie.

Fate/stay night – UNLIMITED BLADE WORKS

Finally the great masterpiece comes. The trailer has been put on Youtube. Will definitely love to see it will be on theater across the world. Forget my daydream and come to the movie part. As you can see the subtitle is UNLIMITED BLADE WORKS (UBW), which means the story of the second route of the Fate/stay night PC game will be put on the big screen. Guess lots of fans of the series, who have played or haven’t played the game, have already known what the story talks about. It’s good to see how Rin becomes the first heroine (sad to find out that the name of Kana Ueda (植田佳奈) was still listed after Ayako Kawasumi (川澄綾子) although both of them are my favorite CVs). Would love to bring more after the release of the movie.

Review: Kara no Kyoukai Movie 7 – Satsujin Kousatsu (Second)

The movie of Anime Kara no Kyoukai finally comes to the last episode. The DVD of the last chapter Kara no Kyoukai Movie 7: Satsujin Kousatsu (Part 2) (劇場版空の境界第七章殺人考察(後)) has just released recently and finally fans like us who don’t live in Japan have chances to enjoy this masterpiece. I’ve long been interested in TYPE-MOON‘s works, especially the novel written by Kinoko Nasu (奈須きのこ).

Continued by the previous chapter where Azaka did a great job (while showed up only in one scene this chapter poorly…), the story dated back to four years ago when Shiki lost another part of her. But the story seems fail in telling me how Shiki was killed. It occured to me that in the fifth chapter of the series Mujun Rasen (矛盾螺旋), Souren Araya (荒耶宗蓮) said that he killed the male part of Shiki while in the last episode Shiki seemed to commit suicide “himself”. There’s no much fight between Shiki and Souren four years ago as I expected.

I was shocked by the look of Shiki in childhood. She’s sooooo cute that I cannot stop snapshoting. The story of the chapter develops around Mikiya looking for the criminal of recent events which happened to have connection with events four years ago when he tried to approve that Shiki didn’t kill anybody. As he stepped deeper into the events he found out the murderer was a friend of him in high school Rio Shirazumi (白純里緒).

In order to keep the promise between Mikiya and her, Shiki was captured by Rio. Not quite like the scene that Rio treated Shiki – - . Rio was turned into a beast by Souren and cannot control himself. As Shiki noticed that Mikiya was “killed” by Rio, she killed Rio. Like the memories between Shiki and Mikiya flashed by during the episode. It’s quite warm and the author who set up a story like this is someone that I admire.

A little disappointed that Mikiya and Shiki didn’t kiss but just hold each other tight. In the fight, Mikiya lost his left eye (luckily to survive, the wound was terrible and he was drugged by Rio). To be frankly, I don’t really like the later part of this chapter compared with the first part which tells the story between Mikiya and Shiki four years ago. The first part of the story, I mean the the 1st part of Satsujin Kousatsu strikes much deeper at me than the 2nd part.

It will be great to have a kiss scene. Pity.

I always think the shy part of Shiki is a great treasure. Yes, indeed. Like the new hair style of Mikiya.

The story ends here. Feeling quite pity, I sincerely hope that the story could be longer. Like the part when Mikiya and Shiki was students in high school and want to know more about their school life. But the story ends. What’s next? It’s time to read the novel of the series. And what’s next big event of TYPE-MOON? Well, that would definitely be the movie of Fate/stay night. Will bring more about this!
