Japanese Pop Culture ChannelJanuary 14, 2009Wishlist Weekly! Vol.17by YoU 1116 days ago Friends who poke around the site would probably get noticed that there were lot of ads and affiliates programs around. However, regular readers may now find that all most of those Google Adsenses are gone. Am I not going to make money via my site any more? No, that’s not the case. Thanks to a tutorial from Smashingmagazine.com I’m now able to consider removing all those Google Ads away from the sight of my regular readers and only show them to the traffic from search engines, say, Google, Yahoo! and MSN. Just consider it as an addition value I added to my friends ^^.Though Google Ads are no more getting in your way, the affiliate programs were left. Currently TheAkiba has two affiliate sponsors, Jlist.com and Play-Asia.com, one is located in Japan and another in Hong Kong. The two of them are both focusing on Anime, Comic and Game stuffs (ACG for short) and are those rare sponsors really fit well with the contents of my site. The Wishlist Weekly ! idea comes from the recommendation of Jlist.com and I’d like to implement it as another way to grow profits. Someone may get sucked on this but you may just consider it as a recommended buy list or something else, and really if you don’t like it, just navigate away and remember to poke around on other part of the site, that’s fine ^^. I’m not persuading my friends to buy things via my affiliate links but just consider it as something I really want to buy (truly, I won’t put it up if I don’t like it). Sounds like a rountine declaration but it’s cool to me. And okay, here we go.ArtbookThe visual fan book ~ Encyclopedia of Goddess and Fairies — Megami Yousei Jiten visual Fan book (R, R18)Description: This is a fabulous Encyclopedia artbook created and illustrated by a group of talented artists, focuses on Goddess and Fairies. In this book, you’ll enjoy 100 pages and more than 200 beautiful full color illustrations featuring legendary goddess and fairies, illustrated with very cute and sexy designs, perfect if you like Moe 2D sexy girls from Japanese animation.Review: The cover is illustrated by Miwa Yoshikazu (美和美和) and the inside may be a little too sexy for some friends. R18 recommended.Magazines Dengeki G’s Magazine Dec 2008 (Highly recommended. For all age, probably ^^) Description: A great magazine that anime fans across the world will enjoy, this is Dengeki G’s, a magazine published each month which brings you information and lots of pictures on the cutest bishoujo anime and game characters in Japan. The girls are what’s important in Dengeki G’s, only this and nothing more, and each page brings you more and more cute girls from Japan’s popular anime, games, manga and more. Includes pages and pages of character designs excellent for reference and contains a fan art section and more. Each issue comes with a bonus present! In the Dec 2008 Issue: Special focuses on Marriage Royale (also special book included), Da Capo II D.C. II, Tora Dora, Fate/unlimited codes and more. Also included, a beautiful pencil board from Marriage Royale.Review: If you know me well you won’t get confused why I recommend this one. I love Hiro Suzuhira’s works, all of them! Seriously I’ll buy this myself. Why? Don’t you see there’s a special book about Galgame novel Marriage Royale which is illustrated by Hiro Suzuhira and Aoi Nishimata included? This is an old issue for last month (or last year) but I don’t really care since the world is already a fast changing one ever. Like the above preview/cover of the issue, check it out in the article I posted months ago: Hiro Suzuhira & Aoi Nishimata: New Work from G’s Magazine.Figures: Shuffle Memories 1/8 Scale Pre-Painted PVC Figure: Shigure Asa (Out of Stock)Description: The sculptors of Kotobukiya have recreated a memorable scene from the adult game Shuffle! Memories. Those who have played the game and followed Shigure Asa’s route would have the scene imprinted in their heads. By gathering illustrations drawn by Suzuki Hiro, the game’s character designer, the sculptors have brought the scene alive to the most realistic degree. One of the greatest advantage of bringing that scene to the 3D world is that fans can admire Shigure Asa from all angles, from the provocative front view to the exciting back view.Review: Asa again, Hiro Suzuhira again, seems like I’m kind of mania of Hiro Suzuhira. I’ve brought this figure before and it’s now out of stock both in Jlist and Play-Asia (probably for a long time). Sounds like some kind of Asa magic. This is a must buy one to me.Otaku Stuffs:Yuiko Kurugaya Oppai Mouse Pad ~ Little Busters EcstasyDescription: From the visual novel (dating sim) “Little Busters Ecstasy” by Key comes this ‘oppai mousepad’ that we’re all excited about. Not only does it features some excellent artwork from the anime, it also features wacky ergonomically enhanced 3D breasts to keep your wrist supported just right for your computing needs. Measures 10.5 inches by 9 inches. This mousepad features Yuiko Kurugaya.Review: This is evil, I mean, truly. I think I only dare to use it when I’m alone ^^. PS. the pattern is a little bit different from the image above, check it out yourself.
206erJanuary 14, 2009 AFAIK, Marriage Royale is not a bishojo game, it’s a short story featured in Dengeki G’s magazine and illustrated by Hiro Suzuhira and Aoi Nishimata“Marriage Royale (マリッジロワイヤル, Marijji Rowaiyaru?) is a series of illustrated Japanese fictional short stories written by Shingo Hifumi and illustrated by Aoi Nishimata and Hiro Suzuhira; both illustrators are from Navel. The short stories are apart of a reader-participation game in the Japanese bishōjo magazine Dengeki G’s Magazine, published by ASCII Media Works, which started in the January 2006 issue. A manga based on the short stories, illustrated by Koko Natsuki from Lime, started serialization in the April 2007 issue of Dengeki G’s Magazine.”Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marriage_RoyaleReply
YoUJanuary 14, 2009 You’re right! It seems to be produced by Navel. But anyway, happy to know that it’s a novel instead of a Galgame ^^PS. A very interesting stuff was just discovered on the official website. G’s magazine seems to have held a reader-participation game about Marriage Royale. Will check it out.Reply
206erJanuary 15, 2009 Well, from wikipedia:“Marriage Royale began as a reader-participation game in ASCII Media Works’ Dengeki G’s Magazine on November 30, 2005, where the profiles of two girls, Minato Daiba and Minami Umeda, were supplied for the reader. After reading the profiles, the reader could illustrate what they wanted the girls to look like, and send it in; out of all the entries, two were chosen for each girl, and the attributes of both were combined to create a single character design illustrated by either Aoi Nishimata, or Hiro Suzuhira.”I don’t know if the reader participation game still goes on though….
YoUJanuary 15, 2009 Really? Not sure but there’re only two rounds of the game showing on the official website (and apparently the 2nd round has not yet finished): http://www.project-navel.com/navel/marriageroyale/characters.htmlMaybe the novel is not so welcomed (I cant imagine that…). Not sure about that since it’s tough to read Japanese ^^ I think I’ll do better on listening after watching all those Animes.
206erJanuary 17, 2009 Well, I’m holding this month’s Dengeki G’s magazine right now (although I can’t read Japanese) and judging from the contents, I think the novel is still ongoing. The whole Marriage Royale section took 8 pages (not including the manga), 1 for the short story, 1 for a character pin-up, 1 for something that looks like favorite character poll, and the rest looks like explanationOn a side note, I wonder why a lot of people think that Suzuhira Hiro is a male?
YoUJanuary 17, 2009 Oops…I guess most of the people love Hiro’s scans and think only male can do that good job (like observing women ^^). But actually, most of the famous illustrators are female “since” they can do better in observing women ^^.PS. What about Tony? Female or male? Though the name sounds like a male, not sure.
206erJanuary 18, 2009 “But actually, most of the famous illustrators are female they can do better in observing women ^^” Agreed ^^ By Tony, you mean Tony Taka alias T2, right? T2′ real name is Takayuki Tanaka so I think it’s a heHere’s Japanese Wikipedia entry for TONYTony(トニー、1971年 – )は日本のイラストレーター、原画家、キャラクターデザイナーである。 Reply
